Plane Crash at London Southend Airport Claims Four Lives

(MENAFN) Essex police confirmed on Monday that four people lost their lives in a plane crash at London Southend Airport on Sunday.

Morgan Cronin, Essex County’s chief superintendent, announced that all four passengers aboard the aircraft died in the crash and are believed to be foreign nationals. Authorities are continuing their efforts to verify their identities.

Cronin also revealed that a “significant air exclusion zone” has been established around the crash site to secure the area.

Lisa Fitzsimons, lead investigator with the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB), identified the plane as a Beech B200 Super King Air. The AAIB has initiated a safety investigation to uncover the cause and circumstances behind the fatal accident.

Local media reports indicate the victims included three men and one woman.

Video footage captured a massive fireball erupting immediately after the crash, while photos shared online showed fierce flames and thick black smoke engulfing the wreckage on Sunday afternoon.

Essex Police responded to “reports of a collision involving a 12-meter aircraft” just before 4 p.m. local time (1500 GMT).

The flight was operated by Dutch company Zeusch Aviation and was scheduled to travel to Lelystad Airport in the Netherlands.

Zeusch Aviation confirmed that its SUZ1 flight “had been involved in an accident” at London Southend Airport and expressed condolences, stating their thoughts were with “everyone who has been affected.”

Southend Airport announced it would remain closed indefinitely as a result of the “serious incident.”
